
In 2003 Essex County Council, in partnership with the district and borough councils and EST Connexions, set up an assembly of elected young people aged 13 - 19 giving them the oppotunity to be the voice of young Essex.
The Assembly mirrors the adult council chamber with 79 members from the 12 districts.
They meet 3 times a year.
The Assembly splits down into smaller groups who look at and comment on different aspects related to life in Essex. These groups meet more regularly. The assembly also provides opportunities for everyone to contribute and work with their district and local youth forums.
Subgroups for 2009-2011 are:
- Lemonaid (Dangers of drugs and alcohol)
- Crash (Road Safety)
- 2C4C (Crime)
- Beat Bullying (Anti-bullying)
The subgroups were formed folloqwing information collected from over 25,000 young people in Essex. Some members of YEA are also part of the United Kindom Youth Parliament and work on a national scale.
